Problems Getting Engine to Clear Bottom of Boat


One of the worrying problems was that when the engine was lowered in the engine box, as though it was entering water beneath the boat, was the cavitation plate above the propellor caught easily on the edges of the hole made for its exit.





The solution lay in making guides on the back part of that hole to connect with the cavitation plate well above its exit point from the hull and thus allow a more defined and guided passage out through the hull.




                  These were made from short sections of aluminium angle (5mm thick)
                                                                


                                    and welded onto the back corners as shown below.






Although it has worked to improve the entrance of the engine into the water I have confounded the device I made for closing the portal (shown)  with the plug when the engine is lifted and the boat is under sail.


                          I solved the problem by removing material on the 'plug' till it fitted.
